"Aging out" of Ender Gaming Club

The Ender Gaming Club is an experience designed for kids between the ages of 6 and 13. Naturally, kids who are members of the club for a long time might eventually become too old to fit within that range and "age out". This article will give you all the details you need to understand how we handle these situations.

What is the maximum age a club member is allowed to be?

During the sign-up process, we allow kids from ages 6 to 13. Once a child has already joined, they are allowed to remain in the club until they are 14 years old.

Is a child removed from the club as soon as they turn 14?

No—Instead of removing kids the moment they reach their 14th birthday, we instead have an annual "graduation day" on September 1st, and any child who is 14 on that date is no longer allowed to be a member of the club.

Why are kids not removed immediately upon turning 14?

There are several reasons.

  1. We want existing members to be able to enjoy club over summer break before starting the new school year.
  2. We want kids and parents to be able to anticipate when their time in the club will come to an end.
  3. We want to use it as an annual opportunity to celebrate community members as they move towards adulthood.
  4. We think getting kicked out of club would be a pretty crummy birthday present.

What happens after "graduation day"?

Any child who is 14 on September 1st will lose access to the club on the following day. Their Ender account will be permanently locked, and they will lose access to our private Minecraft and Roblox servers.

Will this affect the Ender accounts of my other children?

No—kids who have not yet reached the age of 14 will continue to have normal access to the club. You'll still see the older child's account in your list, but there will be an indicator letting you know that their account has been retired.

After my child ages out, will my subscription automatically be cancelled?

Yes, but only if you no longer have any child accounts of appropriate age. Otherwise the system will assume you want to continue being subscribed so that those other child accounts won't lose access. If one of your child accounts is getting close to their last day we'll send you an email with more information about what to expect. You can also refer to the Managing your subscription page for more information on how you can cancel your subscription manually.

Why is there an age limit on the club at all?

Parents have told us that gaming/socializing with kids of similar ages is an important part of why they signed up for our club in the first place, so we choose to stick to the age expectations we've already set with customers. We also recognize that there is a big difference in maturity and emotional intelligence between a 6-year-old and high-schooler, so keeping the age range limited makes it easier for members to mesh well together and game as a single community.

Will you offer a separate experience for older kids in the future?

We have considered this possibility, and while it doesn't make business sense for us at this particular moment we may revisit a separate club experience for high schoolers later on down the road.
